Hash January 2007: Bukit Brown Cemetry

January 7, 2007 at 3:38 am 20 comments

First hash of the year, and also my very first hash.
Now I can say I’ve been there and done that! 😀

Rough doggy head count: 30.

Meeting point where all dogs and their humans gather.

Do you recognise anyone here?

Prep talk. You know you’re on the right trail when you see toilet paper, chalk and flour.
When it happens, just bark “On on!”

Halfway through the trail…

Looking weary but the march is still on

Ahh… there’s Aunty Jenny with something precious

In the middle of the cemetry…

We had to thread through rivers and steams…

Even the humans were not spared.

After awhile, I turned around and realised Dad & Mum were nowhere in sight!
Neither did I see Aunty Jenny. I was with Uncle Pal, Suria and Luna in the front all along and wondered where my humans were.
But I still had to march on… And march on  I did. Throughout the rest of the hash I didnt see my folks again until the very end.
I suppose that’s what soldiers do in war too. Time waits for no one.

At the finish line…

Not my birthday, it’s Princess’ and Duchess’ birthdays! But we get to celebrate.
Uncle Pal was kind enough to stuff 2 muffins into my mouth, which Mama didnt share the same thoughts about.
Oh well… Maybe next time she can just ask me to do some tricks before feeding me, but please dont ask me to give up my dinner!

Downing beer in dog bowls from Ikea looks alot more fun when the Aussies sing “Down down down down down…”

In true Hash fashion, first timers have to come in a circle and down beer from dog bowls.
As you will see, anything can be worth cheering for. Hashing in a skirt, hashing in sandals, the one who smiles alot (Dad *ahem*), brown bottoms have to bottom up… anything!

From Kingsley’s:

It was fun!
I’ve never seen my papa sweat like that and mama hasnt been this tired since she ran Agility with me last month.
After that we all went home to take a much needed shower and went for dinner, or rather, the hungry humans went for dinner while we stayed in the car

Entry filed under: Photos & Places.

what i really reallllyyyy want What? Dawg hashing… again!

Wah…. you must stick to your human..did you know that kenneth had to rescue a dog from being hit by the car cos the human wasn’t around?.

It’s very dangerous.. tsk tsk tsk..

Maybe can train up your mama or papa to run faster.. else you will have to run slower!

luckily.. not every human has a guard dog like me..else everyone will be too busy to look after their own dogs.

    😛

Btw.. you can see more pictures at http://kingsley.wordpress.com/2007/01/07/what-a-party/

Mavy boy, you really an inspiration for Pal to run faster.. hehee.. he gotta be fast to catch up with you scared to loose you (while Suria was busy marking every grass and vertical things he saw). Lucky thing you a good boy and listen to him. He said he took care of 4 dogs end up at home he asked me to shower both doggies..

Urrgghh… I accidently deleted all the hash photos =(

Kingsley, yeah I’m sure if every human’s dog is as aggressive as you, everyone will have their hands full for sure! 😆

Remember it was my Mama who saved your head from yr nenemis Jeannie at the Hougang MSCP? Still dont learn yr lesson? Shame on you.. tsk tsk. 😛

Kaiser > Yeah.. now my mama has new found admiration for your K cos he ran so fast and is so fit. LOL

Aunty Joy > Dont worry about it I was merely relating the example. I read in yr blog, you said that Jeannie wasn’t the one who started it the last time and how she was merely retaliating. 😀
And this *someone* whose dog started it, couldnt stomach the fact that her dog is aggressive, and posted some lame-ass comments here. So now all comments from u guys needs moderation & approval. SIGH

    Dear Veron Zhen aka dirtydawgs,

Actually, it was “Kingsley” who left the comment and I didn’t think that it was lame-ass at all. The comment a direct response to your comment.

If I remember correctly, it was to the tune of “ Wah.. ..training.. so lucky you… unlike me who was abused and abandoned. Good luck to running the marathon. BTW…. the dash is only 5km… and don’t run and end up in Malaysia. Hiak hiak hiak hiak”.

I thought that it is darn kick-ass funny, at least to those with a sense of humour. And I’m sorry that it also “Kingsley’s” comment on your blog that triggered such a nasty reaction from you.

In fact, in case you didn’t know and am unaware… similar comments were left on Jose, the Cain Terror’s blog and BearBear the Notti Rotti’s blog.

After running so many dashes with the dog hash, “Kingsley” was giving practical and logical advice. It is a fact that trails can be laid along and cross roads and there is a need for the owners to handle their own dogs.

I’m glad to say that their responses to “Kingsley’s” comments were positive. However, I cannot say the same about yours.

Instead of getting the message on the importance in ensuring the safety of your own dog, to make the whole hash experience enjoyable for everyone, you choose to take it personally, focusing and thinking that “Kingsley” was saying that your dog is wild, untrained, has no loyalty to his owners, has zero recall and/or that you are a lousy handler and runner.

All I can say that if I were in your position, I’d be filthy happy that my dog is safe and sound, take it as a learning experience and ensure that for the next dog hash it doesn’t happen again.

However, in respond, you choose to leave nasty, spiteful, petty and stating the obvious ‘anonymous’ comments on Kingsley’s blog as sent from your IP address, totally indicative of your low EQ, immaturity and character. Comments that I chose not to publish then to save your reputation.

The comments made about Kingsley that the dog communities in Singapore, especially the now defunct petportal.org and even yourself, is known prior to his adoption by me; Behavioural problems that were developed in his prior stressful environment. I have accepted his behaviour as part of his character and am dealing with it with his every encounter with new and unfamiliar dogs. I do not shrink from the responsibility, do not endorse it, condone it, nor am proud of it. It is a fact that I constantly deal with, monitor, talk, joke and blog about it even. There also wasn’t a need for you to bring up the singular fight that Kingsley had with Jeannie (Jacq’s). He hasn’t even fought since then with her. And there wasn’t and hasn’t been any fights that Kingsley was involved in at the dog hash nor with your dog. What were you hoping to achieve?

In fact, the very first reasons why I started taking part in the dog hash was to put Kingsley in an environment that is not stressful to him and to meet people with dogs who would be tolerant of his behaviour hoping to correct it. I’m glad to say that the dog hash is everything I expected and am happy to be part of the community now. I’m also darn proud that Kingsley has shown vast improvements in his socialization skills to the extent that he can be placed with familiar dogs unsupervised.

Having said all that, the purpose of Kingsley’s blog is to provide some fun and stress relief for myself, my friends and those who are familiar with Kingsley to enjoy his pictures, adventures and most importantly, his journey with me.

Now, I am going to cease moderation on Kingsley’s blog cause I find that I have no need for it, except for a few odd, strange spammers, which I don’t feel that there is a need to protect the blog from.

Do remember that there is no 100% anonymity in the cyberworld. Anything anyone says or writes can be traced.

This episode is certainly food for thought and I’ll feedback to the dog hash committee and suggest that maybe a simple statement can be made on the website’s FAQ as well as during the briefing on the handling of dogs during the dash.

All in all, I don’t know about you… I’m definitely looking forward to the next hash. On-on!

    Back to the REAL WORLD.

P/s. You can choose to publish this comment or not. In any way, I’d be posting it up on Kingsley’s blog.

Dear Shanni Lim..To clarify things abit, I’m not so dumb to not know that comments leave no IP addresses, since I’m a wordpress user myself and can see every comment’s IP address everytime I login.
If you notice, the FIRST message was posted by nicknick, who is my friend’s obese GR Nicky under a totally different IP Address. However, you deleted it and she asked me to repost on her behalf.
that’s the bottom line. Nothing personal or immature about it.
    *shrugs*

And sorry I didnt quite understand what was your problem. It is no secret that Kingsley is “snappish”, if not aggressive, since that’s the way you like it. And it was in his New Yr Resolution to make more friends, not enemies. Apparently you are the one who took a simple one-liner comment a little too literally and personally and came up some childish fanclub.
“Mavy” merely posted “yah you do need to work on yr aggression prob big time” and that’s where you started taking things negatively.

Oh well…. Back to the real world with you too.
I shall not comment further on this silly and petty issue.
Mavy’s and Alice’s blog is for our journey in life together, not for online spats.
Just because 2 ladies couldnt quite see eye to eye on the same issues, so be it.
